2016 Field Trials Sudbury

The NCFRN met up in Sudbury, Ontario for a week-long series of field experiments, meetings and collaboration. We collected data for our four themes (Land, Air, Water, Human) through joint testing of robotics hardware and software developed throughout the year. Students teams had the opportunity to present their ideas for commercialization at the second edition of "Ogopogo's Lair".

Research labs led by our principle investigators, our distal fellows, our industrial and government partners joined us and some of our international collaborators. Over the weekend (June 10-11), the Annual General Meeting (AGM) included presentations by partners (Companies & Government) on their activity and opportunities, technical meetings, a social event and a banquet. During June 9, 12-15 our main activities included deployments and testing at Laurentian Conservation Area, at Laurentian University Campus, at the Ethier Sand Gravel Pit and at the Glencore Onaping Mine.

This year, we gave the opportunity to HQP led teams to pitch ideas for commercialization of existing NCFRN technologies in a Dragon's Den type of contest called Ogopogo’s Lair 2nd Edition thanks to renewed funding from NSERC Strategic Network Enhancement Initiative.

Our participants were hosted by Hampton Inn Sudbury

The event was open to public media day on Wednesday June 15th. ICI Radio Canada covered NCFRN's activities in a video
